10 OHL graduates win AUS title with StFX

Ten OHL graduates have helped the StFX X-Men claim their first AUS title since 2004, defeating the UNB Varsity Reds 2-0 in their best-of-three championship series.

With the two clubs entering the third period of a deciding Game 2 on Wednesday knotted at three, Peterborough Petes graduate Michael Clarke scored the eventual winner 1:59 into the frame before fellow Petes alumnus Nathan Pancel put things out of reach into an empty net for a 5-3 final.

Owen Sound Attack graduate Nathan Chiarlitti was named the series MVP after scoring twice on Wednesday to finish with a team-leading seven points (3-4–7) in six playoff contests.

Saginaw Spirit graduates Eric Locke and Kristoff Kontos each had assists in the victory.

Locke was recently named the AUS’ Most Valuable Player for the 2015-16 season after he finished with 14 goals, 21 assists and 35 points with a plus/minus rating of plus-15 in 28 games.

Other teams in the event include the Western Mustangs, UQTR Patriotes, Saskatchewan Huskies, Saint Mary’s Huskies, Alberta Golden Bears, UNB Varsity Reds and the winner of a matchup between the Carleton Ravens and Guelph Gryphons.
