171 OHL Alumni listed on NHL Opening Night Rosters

The Canadian Hockey League is proud to announce that 372 CHL alumni are actively listed on National Hockey League Opening Night Rosters representing over 52% of all players in the league to start the 2017-18 season.

Of the 372 CHL alumni, 171 are from the Ontario Hockey League which represents 24% of all players. The national figure also includes 129 players from the Western Hockey League and 72 from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Among the OHL players listed on active rosters are 2017 NHL Draft picks Owen Tippett (10th overall, Florida Panthers) of the Mississauga Steelheads, and Alex Formenton (47th overall, Ottawa Senators) of the London Knights.

Also making the jump to start the 2017-18 campaign are a collection of returning eligible 19-year-olds from the 2016 NHL Draft including Mastercard Memorial Cup champions Logan Brown (Ottawa Senators) and Mikhail Sergachev (Tampa Bay Lightning) of the Windsor Spitfires, along with Janne Kuokkanen (Carolina Hurricanes) and Victor Mete (Montreal Canadiens) of the London Knights.  Steelheads captain Michael McLeod, a first round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 2016, is still hoping to make his professional debut this season but is currently listed on injured reserve.

OHL champions Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome of the Erie Otters will also start the season in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes respectively.

The London Knights lead all CHL clubs with 29 graduates on NHL rosters, followed by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with 14.  The Arizona Coyotes and Los Angeles Kings have the most OHL graduates on their roster with 10 each, followed by the Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks each with nine.

In addition to the 171 OHL alumni on active NHL rosters, 21 graduates are opening the season on NHL team injured reserve lists.

The OHL continues to be a leading supplier of talent to the NHL.
