Windsor, ON – General Manager Warren Rychel is pleased to announce the Spitfires have added longtime NHL goaltending consultant Jim Bedard as the club’s new goaltending coach.
Bedard, 59, spent 18 years on the Detroit Red Wings coaching staff, winning three Stanley Cups, following a professional career that spanned 14 years across North America and Europe.
Bedard says he’s looking forward to a fresh start and building on relationships within the organization.
“The last couple years, I’d stop in on a casual basis, to help out a little in my spare time,” Bedard said. “These are good people I want to be around in a hockey atmosphere. They treat people the right way.”
Bedard says he sees great advantage in having familiarity with the club’s current goaltenders.
“I’m looking forward to working with Mario (Culina) and Mikey (DiPietro) again, after getting to know them last year. I think that’s a huge plus. I’m also looking forward to collaborating with (goaltending consultant) Paul Billing. He’s someone I respect and work well with. Being a Windsor guy, someone that lives here, I’m excited for the season and the chance to bring a Memorial Cup title to the city.”
Rychel says having Bedard and Billing working together will be a huge positive, on and off the ice.
“We’re thrilled to have Jimmy join our staff,” Rychel said. “Obviously, his credentials speak for themselves. He’ll have a positive impact on our goalies and will add nicely to our overall team culture. We feel like with the combination of he and Biller, we have the league’s best goaltending instructors.”
