We are confident that David will develop into a top defenceman for the Sudbury Wolves.”
Eccles advisor is former NHL great Darcy Tucker. The former Leaf Is confident that his client will be a key contributor to the Sudbury Wolves success: “The Sudbury Wolves have a real good one in David” notes Tucker. “From the moment the Wolves drafted him, he has been working extremely hard to show the Sudbury Wolves that he belongs in the OHL. David is one of those big defencemen that forwards do not enjoy playing against. Sudbury is a great fit for David and we are all very excited for David and the Wolves.”
Smith indicated that the Wolves’ organizational goal is to continue to build their team primarily through the draft. From the 2012 OHL draft, the Wolves have now signed six of their top-drafted players including: Three forwards, two defencemen and a tender:

MATHEW SCHMALZ – RW – 1ST ROUND (acquired by trade)
FRANKIE VILARDI – C – 3RD ROUND
CONNOR BURGESS – LW – 3RD ROUND
