Firebirds’ Oksentyuk sets new club mark with 15-game point streak

The Flint Firebirds fell to the rival Saginaw Spirit 7-4 on home ice, but a bit of club history was made as forward Evgeniy Oksentyuk picked up a pair of assists, stretching his point streak to a record 15 games.

Oksentyuk’s 15-game trend surpasses Flint’s prior mark set by forward Kole Sherwood during the 2016-17 season.

An 18-year-old native of Brest, Belarus, Oksentyuk has registered 46 points (19-27–46) over 33 games in his first OHL season after being selected by the Firebirds with the fifth overall pick of the 2019 CHL Import Draft. The 5-foot-7 winger has brought fans out of their seats this season, most recently scoring a highlight reel lacrosse-style goal last weekend.

While not currently drafted to the NHL, Oksentyuk attended rookie camp with the Arizona Coyotes in September.
