Generals, Attack and Firebirds included in Kia CHL Top 10

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced the week seven edition of the Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2019-20 season.  The weekly rankings of the CHL’s Top-10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.

The Oshawa Generals are still hanging around the top of the list on the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings. Though they drop one spot, they remain the OHL’s top team on the list after taking two of three this past weekend. Oshawa defeated Mississauga and Hamilton but dropped a 3-2 shootout decision against the Bulldogs on Saturday. Overage centre Brett Neumann leads Oshawa offensively with 20 points (11-9–20) over 14 games. On the back end, New York Rangers prospect Nico Gross has 12 points (5-7–12) over 14 contests.

The Owen Sound Attack drop back down to eighth on the list after splitting decisions against Barrie and North Bay. The Attack fell to the Colts 3-2 on Thursday before doubling-up the visiting Battalion 6-3 on Saturday. Veteran centreman Aidan Dudas, who was named captain of Team OHL for the upcoming CIBC Canada Russia Series, has six points (1-5–6) over the past three games and leads the Bears in scoring with 18 points (4-14–18).

The Flint Firebirds are into the Kia CHL Top 10 for the first time in their five-year franchise history. Flint keeps rolling, winning all six of their home games to date while entering a Wednesday night matchup in Owen Sound on a four-game winning streak. Both Flint goaltenders were big when called upon last weekend as Anthony Popovich and Luke Cavallin both earned wins as the Firebirds defeated Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. Overage winger Jake Durham leads Flint with eight goals on the season while captain and Dallas Stars first round pick Ty Dellandrea leads the way with 14 points (6-8–14).

The Peterborough Petes drop from the ninth spot down to an honourable mention this week following a 4-2 loss to the Sarnia Sting that was followed by a 10-3 drubbing of the Mississauga Steelheads. The Petes remain in the conversation as Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson is among the OHL’s goal-scoring leaders while defenceman Declan Chisholm rides a 13-game point streak.

The Windsor Spitfires also received an honourable mention as a result of a five-game winning streak. The Spitfires have benefitted from the strong contributions of Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Tyler Angle (10-9–19) while Nashville Predators second round pick Egor Afanasyev (6-8–14) is off to a strong start in his first OHL season.
