St. Catharines, Ont. – The Niagara IceDogs are proud to announce that Joey Burke has been named General Manager of the club.
After beginning his tenure with the IceDogs as the team’s goaltending scout in 2007-08, Burke continued to climb the ranks within the organization’s scouting staff, before being named as Assistant General Manager prior to the 2010-2011 season. He held the title until the 2016-2017 season before being promoted to Director of Player Personnel.
As IceDogs’ Director of Player Personnel, Burke made a collection of trades acquiring six 2nd round picks, four 3rd round picks, as well as a 4th, 5th, and 6th round pick in the next four OHL Priority Selection Drafts, while making important changes to improve the team that was going through a rebuild following an appearance in the franchise’s second OHL Championship Series.
Midseason acquisitions in Justin Brack and Kirill Maksimov paid dividends down the stretch as the IceDogs clinched a playoff berth for the 10th consecutive year, doing so as one of the youngest teams in the Canadian Hockey League.
