McTavish scores as Canada defeats Sweden in pre-tournament play

Team Canada captain Mason McTavish (Hamilton Bulldogs) lit the lamp as Canada prevailed in a World Junior pre-tournament tune-up Monday night at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Canada would hang on to win by a score of 4-3 after Sweden made things interesting in the third period, rallying from a 3-1 deficit before falling just short.

Former Kitchener Rangers defender Donovan Sebrango picked up an assist in the win as Canada outshot Sweden 30-26.

A total of nine OHL players are included on this year’s Canadian roster including McTavish, Sebrango, Soo Greyhounds teammates Ryan O’Rourke and Jack Thompson, Barrie’s Tyson Foerster, Flint’s Brennan Othmann, Windsor’s Will Cuylle, Mississauga’s Ethan Del Mastro and London Knights goaltender Brett Brochu.

Canada begins tournament play on Wednesday against Latvia. Game time is 6:00pm ET.
