A rookie trio found the back of the net on OHL Opening Night in Saginaw as Cole Perfetti, Ryan O’Rourke and Mason Millman all had nights to remember.
COLE PERFETTI (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
Cole Perfetti’s first of two goals on the night came 10:56 into the opening period, marking the first goal scored in the CHL to start the 2018-19 season. DJ Busdeker chipped in with an assist as Perfetti picked the short side on Sault Ste. Marie’s Tyler Johnson. The fifth overall pick of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, Perfetti joined former Whitby Wildcats and Vaughan Kings teammate Ryan O’Rourke of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in scoring his first goal as the two friends squared off on opposite sides of the ice.
MASON MILLMAN (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
Seventeen year-old defenceman Mason Millman got in on the action with the first goal of his OHL career. Millman blasted a power play point shot through traffic that made its way past Tyler Johnson to give Saginaw a 3-1 lead with just eight seconds to go in the second period. Millman’s first came unassisted and stood as the eventual game winner as the Spirit knocked off the Greyhounds 5-2.
RYAN O’ROURKE (SAULT STE. MARIE GREYHOUNDS):
Ryan O’Rourke followed up his friend Cole Perfetti’s milestone goal with one of his own, banging one in as the late man into the slot 3:59 into the second period. Morgan Frost and Anthony DeMeo gathered assists as O’Rourke adds a taped up first goal puck to his collection. The 16-year-old Pickering native was Sault Ste. Marie’s first round (20th overall) pick this past Spring.
