NHL Debut: Owen Beck (Jan. 28, 2023)

Saturday was a memorable night for Peterborough Petes forward Owen Beck, who made his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens just days prior to his 19th birthday.
The centreman from Port Hope was recalled by the Canadiens on an emergency basis for Saturday’s game that resulted in a 5-0 win for the host Ottawa Senators. Beck played 9:48, blocking a shot and going 1-for-2 in the faceoff circle while finishing with a minus-one rating.
Selected in the second round, 33rd overall by Montreal last summer, Beck was the OHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year in 2021-22, recording 51 points (21-30–51) in 68 games for the Mississauga Steelheads, being voted to the OHL’s second all-rookie team. In 37 games between Mississauga and Peterborough this season, Beck has 19 goals, 25 assists and 44 points, winning 58.2 percent of his faceoffs.
Beck was returned to Peterborough following Saturday’s contest. The Petes are at home to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
