OHL News – Radio Edition with host Terry Doyle and presented by Bauer returns for the 2018-19 regular season bringing fans insight from feature guests as well as news and notes from around the league each and every week over the airwaves.
This week’s segment features Greater Toronto Hockey League Player of the Year Shane Wright of the Don Mills Flyers who was recently granted exceptional status by Hockey Canada making him eligible for the 2019 Priority Selection as a 2004-born player.
Wright, who turned 15-years-old on January 5, and hails from Burlington, Ont, scored 66 goals and 84 assists for 150 points in 72 games this season for the top ranked Flyers. Last month he represented Team Ontario at the 2019 Canada Winter Games scoring six goals and six assists for 12 points in six games as captain of the silver medal entry. Through round-robin play at the 2019 OHL Cup powered by Under Armour, Wright has nine points including three goals and six assists in four games.
We hear Wright describe the process, his emotions upon hearing the positive news, how he feels about his game and his readiness for the OHL, and thoughts about his season with the Flyers. We also hear from OHF Executive Director Phil McKee who outlines the application and review process as administered by Hockey Canada.
