Pre-Season Pulse: Thursday September 12th

 

SOO 5, SARNIA 2 (IN CHATHAM)
Tye Kartye led the way with a goal and two assists as the Soo Greyhounds pulled away from the Sarnia Sting in the third period to skate to a 5-2 victory in Chatham, Ont. Marc Boudreau and Jaromir Pytlik also scored while overage winger Jaden Peca found the back of the net twice. The Hounds scored a pair of power play goals and had a 25-save performance from Ethan Taylor in the crease. In a rare occurrence, the Sting scored both their goals on penalty shots, with Marek Berka and Jacob Perreault making good on their attempts. The game was played before a crowd of 1,710 at the Chatham Memorial Arena.

BARRIE 5, NIAGARA 2
Rookies Ryan Del Monte and Brandt Clarke both scored goals as the Barrie Colts defeated their Central Division foe the Niagara IceDogs 5-2 on home ice. Goals from Peter Fleming, Luke Bignell and Del Monte spotted the Colts a 3-0 lead after two periods before Niagara goals from Bradey Johnson and Jonah De Simone cut the Barrie lead to one. Clarke¬†and¬†Jacob Tortora both hit the empty net to secure the victory. Jet Greaves turned aside 31 of 33 shots as the Colts prevailed in Warren Rychel’s first game behind the bench. Niagara rookies Tucker Tynan and Josh Rosenzweig combined to stop 29 of the 32 shots they faced.
