Rangers’ Yantsis nets four on Friday to reach 50 goals

Jonathan Yantsis‘ meteoric rise continued on Friday as the 19-year-old winger scored four times in a Kitchener Rangers 9-3 win over the Owen Sound Attack.

Yantsis reached the 50-goal milestone in the win, becoming the 15th player in Rangers franchise history to accomplish the feat. After scoring just five times over 59 games last year, Yantsis follows in the footsteps of Jeff Skinner (2009-10) who was the last Ranger to hit the half century mark. He has a total of 73 points (50-23–73) over 67 games this season and leads the OHL with 24 power play goals.

The 6-foot-3, 210Ib right-winger was originally a free agent signing by the Rangers in January 2017 following a strong season with the Markham Waxers Midget AAA team.

Yantsis has scored in four straight games and joins North Bay’s Justin Brazeau, Ottawa’s Tye Felhaber, Hamilton’s Arthur Kaliyev, London’s Kevin Hancock and Guelph’s Isaac Ratcliffe as the league’s sixth 50-goal scorer of the 2018-19 season.
