Rodwin Dionicio commits To IceDogs

Niagara IceDogs

Niagara, ON – IceDogs GM Joey Burke has announced that the team has received a commitment from Swiss defenceman Rodwin Dionicio. Dionicio was selected 18th overall in the first round of the 2021 CHL Import Draft.

Dionicio spent the past season with the Bern U17 and U20 programs in Switzerland’s U17 and U20 Elite leagues, where he tallied four goals and 20 points in 41 games combined between the two leagues. He also represented the Swiss National Team at the U17 and U18 levels, appearing in 10 games, where he contributed a goal and an assist. Dionicio is a smooth skating, reliable defenceman that is able to generate offence off the rush, and will perfectly fit the style of play the IceDogs want from their defencemen.

GM Burke announced signing saying, “This is an exciting day in Niagara and yet another big signing for us this off season. Rodwin is the player we went into the import draft targeting, and he is the perfect fit not only for our playing style and group dynamic, but also the perfect fit for our age and projection. As an underage player at the U18s, he was incredibly impressive and in our minds is the exact left shot, ’04 D we were missing from our lineup. Rodwin brings a very complete game and combines size with offensive ability, smarts and grit to really be a full package kind of guy for us and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be making it official today!”

Dionicio will be representing Switzerland at the 2021 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup from August 2nd to 7th, a tournament featuring the top U18 players in the world, before arriving to Niagara for IceDogs training camp.
