Soo Greyhounds

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – Soo Greyhounds GM Kyle Raftis announced this morning that Dan Stewart has been named the team’s new Goaltending Coach for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

“We are very fortunate to add Dan to our staff for the upcoming season. Dan has extensive experience developing goaltenders. This coupled with his analytical approach will only enhance the staff’s ability to meet the needs of our goaltenders. We are excited to get started working together this week leading into training camp” stated Raftis.

The 40-year old Port Hope, ON native’s coaching experience with goaltender’s is extensive at the Junior, University and academy level.

From 2010-2016 Dan has held the same position with the OJHL’s Cobourg Cougars where under his guidance the Cougars’ goalies have been ranked in the Top 10 of the league every season.
Meanwhile his other experience includes positions as a Goalie Consultant with the St. Lawrence University Saints (NCAA Div. 1 ECAC) in 2015-16 along with work as Goalie Coach with the UOIT Ridgebacks (CIS)

Stewart earned a degree in Business Management (St. Mary’s University) before starting the Connecticut Crease Elite Goalie school based out of New England.

Conneticut Crease is the longest-running private hockey goalie training facility in the State, holding a client roster of more than 300 goalies.

He has since opened CT Crease Canada working with many high level goalies in Southern Ontario.

“I am incredibly excited to join the Soo Greyhounds family. The Hounds are a premier organization, both on and off the ice. The community support and history are second to none in the CHL. I’d like to thank Kyle, Drew, and the entire staff for giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to start spending time in Sault Ste. Marie working with the goalies and staff” commented Dan.

As a player, Stewart was a member of the London Knights (OHL) from 1994-1996 before advancing to the Saint Mary’s University (CIS) from 1997-2000.

He replaces Colin Zulianello who after working with the Hounds last season accepted an American Hockey League job with the Stockton Heat earlier this summer.
