Sting commit Vilmanis playing for Latvia at World Juniors

The Sarnia Sting are keeping close tabs on their newest addition as Sandis Vilmanis competes for Latvia at the 2022 World Juniors in Edmonton.

An 18-year-old, 6-foot-1, 192Ib. left-winger, Vilmanis was a fifth round selection of the Florida Panthers in the NHL Draft last month. He spent last season playing in Sweden’s top junior circuit, recording 18 goals, 14 assists and 32 points in 40 games with Lulea HF.

Vilmanis has represented Latvia internationally at the 2021 and 2022 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championships. He was the 14th overall pick of the 2022 CHL Import Draft and committed to the Sting on July 28th.

Latvia fell 6-1 to Finland in their tournament opener on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday against Canada.
