Arizona Coyotes prospect Dylan Strome made history on Saturday night in Erie, setting a new Otters mark for career assists in a 4-2 win over the North Bay Battalion.
Strome joined linemate Taylor Raddysh in setting up Alex DeBrincat with 1:15 remaining in the first period to launch the teddy bears onto the ice at Erie Insurance Arena. His first of three assists on the night marked the 189th of his OHL career, placing him ahead of Connor McDavid (188, 2012-15) for first on the club’s all-time list.
A fourth-year veteran and captain of the Otters, Strome returned from the Arizona Coyotes last week after playing in seven NHL contests with the club that drafted him third overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.
The Mississauga, Ont. native has a goal and four assists through his first two games of the season, giving him 93 goals, 191 assists and 284 points over 186 career regular season games. He is currently one point back of McDavid (285) for second in Otters all-time points behind Brad Boyes (309, 1998-2002).
Strome was Erie’s first round (2nd overall) pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection. He represented Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship last December in Helsinki, Finland.
