Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced this morning the signing and commitment of 2023 1st Round Selection, Brady Martin, to an OHL Standard Player Agreement and Education package with the Program.

With the Greyhounds selection of Brady 3rd overall in last month’s OHL Priority Selection,  he became one of the highest drafted players in Waterloo Minor Hockey history.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to officially welcome Brady and his family to the Greyhounds organization. After watching him all season, it was reinforced from the moment he arrived at development camp that he was such a special talent and person. We can’t wait to see him in red and white this fall” started Raftis.

“Brady is an exceptional player and I know our staff can’t wait to begin to work with him as he continues to grow and develop as a Greyhound. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to support him in this both on and off the ice” the Hounds GM added.

Martin, a native of Elmira ON, played last season with the Waterloo Wolves U16AAA hockey club. In 23 regular season games he recorded 27 goals and 29 assists (56 points) along with serving as the team’s Captain. In post-season play he had 12 goals and 17 assists in 11 games.

“I feel so honoured to be signing with such a great organization.  I have so many people to thank that have influenced, guided and pushed me over the years to help me reach my goal of playing in the OHL. My parents ,family and friends who supported me, coaches for all the time spent.  A special thank you to Tyler Ertl who helped me keep my stick on the ice, push forward and focus this past season with the Waterloo Wolves U16 team. To my teammates this past season, the best group of guys to win an alliance championship with, truly a special group to finish out my minor hockey career with” expressed Martin.

He then added, “I’m looking forward to joining the Soo Greyhounds, getting to know the team and the staff and working hard to contribute in whatever way I can to the team in the upcoming season.”

Other notable season highlights in 2022-23 included Brady being named an OHL Cup All-Star while finishing third in tournament scoring (8G, 4A) while he also won a gold medal with Team Ontario at the Canada Winter Games (6G, 2A).

Earlier this month Martin was one of 37 players to attend the Greyhounds Development Camp.  When asked about his first impressions of the community and organization he said.

“I was amazed at the warm and  welcoming community atmosphere when I attended the development camp, its noticeably a town with passionate fans and they care a lot about their team .The coaching staff did their best to make us feel comfortable while at the camp and gave us the opportunity to show them our potential.

I’m absolutely pumped to be coming to the Soo.”

Fans will get their next chance to see the newest Greyhound at the team’s Training Camp scheduled for the final weekend of August.

SCOUTING REPORT (from the OHL Priority Selection Media Guide)
Brady is a complete elite center that can play the game any way you want him to. He is a very strong skater with good separation speed. He has elite puck skills and offensive creativity that he uses to make everyone on the ice around him better. He is both a playmaker and goal-scorer and is always dangerous when he has the puck on his stick. He is a fierce competitor that will do anything it takes to score a goal or win a game; he is physical when he needs to be and does not lose many puck battles.
