1ST STAR: MASON MCTAVISH (PETERBOROUGH PETES) – 3G, 2A
New Year’s Eve was a night to remember for Peterborough Petes rookie Mason McTavish. The 16-year-old recorded a career-high five points, netting his second hat-trick of the month to lead the Peterborough Petes to a 7-3 victory in Niagara. McTavish scored all three of his goals in the first period, bringing his season total to 24 to lead all rookies. The Pembroke, Ont. native had an impressive month of December, helping the Petes round out the 2019 calendar year in the OHL’s first place spot. McTavish was the fifth overall pick of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.
2ND STAR: COLE SCHWINDT (MISSISSAUGA STEELHEADS) – 3G
Mississauga Steelheads forward Cole Schwindt recorded his second hat-trick in the past three games, powering his club to a 5-2 road win in Hamilton. The 6-foot-3 Florida Panthers prospect increased his point total to 40 (17-23–40) on the season as Mississauga improved to 14-20-2-1. Schwindt now has eight points (7-1–8) in his last three games. The Kitchener, Ont. native was a third round pick of the Panthers last summer.
3RD STAR: LUKE MONCADA (NORTH BAY BATTALION) – 2G, 1A
Luke Moncada scored twice and added an assist to lead the North Bay Battalion past the Sudbury Wolves 5-3. Moncada scored his league-leading sixth shorthanded goal of the season and later netted the game winning goal as the Troops ended 2019 on a high note, skating to their second straight win. Fourth-year veteran Moncada has 28 points (16-12–28) over 35 games this season. The 19-year-old Toronto, Ont. native was a third round pick of the Guelph Storm in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.
