1ST STAR: RILEY PIERCEY (FLINT FIREBIRDS) – 2G IN FIREBIRDS DEBUT
In his debut with the Flint Firebirds, forward Riley Piercey found the back of the net twice, helping his new team to a tightly fought 6-5 win over the Saginaw Spirit. The OHL sophomore scored midway through the first period to lift the Firebirds up 2-1, and then again in the middle frame to bring them up 4-3. Piercey joined St. Louis Blues prospect Tyler Tucker in making his Firebirds debut on Wednesday. The Mississauga, Ont. native had scored nine goals and four assists for 13 points with the Colts through the first 35 games of the season, and finished his rookie season with 14 points (3-11-14) in 60 games with the club after being a first round pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.
2ND STAR: EVGENIY OKSENTYUK (FLINT FIREBIRDS) – 2G, 14-GAME PT STREAK
Evgeniy Oksentyuk scored two goals in his Flint Firebirds’ 6-5 edge over the Spirit, extending his point streak to 14 games and, in doing so, tying a club record for most consecutive games with a point. The record was set by winger Kole Sherwood during the 2016-2017 season. Oksentyuk scored in the second period to bring the Firebirds up 3-2, and then again in the final frame to make it 5-4. The 18-year-old winger from Brest, Belarus has amassed 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points through the first 32 games of his rookie season.
3RD STAR: DJ BUSDEKER (SAGINAW SPIRIT) – 1G, 1A
Fourth year Saginaw Spirit defenceman DJ Busdeker notched a goal and an assist in his team’s 6-5 loss at the hands of West Division rival Flint Firebirds. The Dexter, Mich. native picked up a helper on Jake Goldowski’s tenth goal of the season, and found the back of the net late in the second period to even the score 3-3. Busdeker has totaled seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points through 39 games so far this season, and holds a 115 point total (39-76-115) in 212 games with the club.
