1ST STAR: JAN JENIK (HAMILTON BULLDOGS) – 3G, 2A
Arizona Coyotes prospect Jan Jenik extended his point streak to 18 games with a career-high five-point tally against the North Bay Battalion, scoring a hat trick and two assists in his team’s 5-1 victory. Jenik is now fourth in OHL scoring with 38 points, just one point behind Sudbury’s Quinton Byfield and teammate Arthur Kaliyev. The 19-year-old from Nymburk, Czech Rep. was a third round pick of the Coyotes in the 2018 NHL Draft.
2ND STAR: MATEJ PEKAR (BARRIE COLTS) – 1G, 3A
Buffalo Sabres prospect Matej Pekar’s four-point night played a big part in Barrie’s 8-5 win over visiting Owen Sound. Pekar’s three assists included a no look, cross-crease pass to feed Jason Willms for his first of two goals, as well as an empty-netter to seal the deal for the Colts. The Turnov, Czech Rep. native currently sits second in scoring for the Colts with 26 points, not far behind teammate Tyson Foerster’s 29. He was Buffalo’s fourth round pick in 2018.
3RD STAR: MASON McTAVISH (PETERBOROUGH PETES) – 2G, 1A
Fresh out of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Mason McTavish hasn’t wasted any time jumping right back into a dominant role with the Peterborough Petes, scoring two goals and one assist in Peterborough’s thrilling 6-5 overtime win over the Niagara IceDogs. The fifth overall pick of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, McTavish got the Petes on the board 1:33 into the first period with a rebound off of Liam Kirk’s wraparound attempt. The Pembroke, Ont. native is sixth among all Peterborough scorers and second in OHL rookie scoring. He also leads all OHL rookies with 12 goals.
