1ST STAR: MATEJ PEKAR (BARRIE COLTS) – 3G, 1A
Matej Pekar‘s first career OHL hat-trick helped the Barrie Colts pull away from the London Knights with four third period goals, scoring a 6-2 win in their home opener. The Buffalo Sabres prospect scored three times and added an assist, capping his hat-trick with a goal from his knees to put things out of reach. The 19-year-old native of Turnov, Czech Rep. has five goals and an assist through his first two games of the season. He was Buffalo’s fourth round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.
HIGHLIGHTS

2ND STAR: JAMIE DRYSDALE (ERIE OTTERS) – 1G, 4A
Sophomore defenceman Jamie Drysdale recorded a career-high five points as the Erie Otters skated to an 8-5 win in Hamilton. Drysdale’s night included a trio of primary assists along with his first goal of the season that came midway through the third period. The five-point effort ties an Otters franchise record for points by a defenceman in a single game, equalling past marks by Steve Montador and David Froh. The draft eligible Drysdale comes off an impressive 40-point rookie campaign. He captained Canada’s National Summer Under-18 Team to a silver medal in the Czech Republic.
HIGHLIGHTS

3RD STAR: JAKE DURHAM (FLINT FIREBIRDS) – 3G
Jake Durham scored a hat-trick to help the Flint Firebirds defeat their Michigan state rival the Saginaw Spirit 4-1. The Firebirds crashed the party at Saginaw’s home opener with Durham playing a star role in the win. The 20-year-old from Port Perry, Ont. already has four goals and an assist through his first two games of the 2019-20 season. He scored 35 goals last season.
