Thursday Highlights: Knights launch valiant comeback

LONDON 5 KITCHENER 4
Late goals from Robert Thomas (3) and Victor Mete (4) helped the London Knights complete a home ice comeback on Thursday, defeating the Kitchener Rangers 5-4 after falling behind 3-0 in the opening half of the game. The Rangers jumped ahead on goals by Jeremy Bracco (7), Joseph Garreffa (2) and Dylan Seitz (3) but London rallied to tie as Cliff Pu (5) and J.J. Piccinich (3, 4) responded before the midway point of the third. Doug Blaisdell’s (1) first of the season put the Rangers back up 4-3 before Thomas and Mete teamed up to lift the Knights to victory over the rival Rangers. Max Jones finished the night with three assists while Brandon Crawley collected two. London improves to 5-2-1-1.

BARRIE 5 MISSISSAUGA 4 SO
Chicago Blackhawks prospect Roy Radke bookended the scoring, opening up the night with his fourth of the season before ending things with a shootout marker in a 5-4 Colts win over visiting Mississauga. The back-and-forth matchup saw the Colts stay one step ahead of their Central Division opponent throughout the night, eventually taking the two points behind a 35-save performance from David Ovsjannikov. Lucas Chiodo (3), Anthony Stefano (5) and Tom Hedberg (1) also scored for Barrie before Radke scored the lone shootout goal. Scoley Dow (1), Owen Tippett (8) and Nicolas Hague (6) all scored for the Steelheads before Ryan McLeod (1) helped them gain a point, tying the game with one minute remaining in the third period to force overtime. The Colts improve to 5-5-1-0.

SARNIA 6 PETERBOROUGH 1
The Sarnia Sting scored six times over the first two periods enroute to a dominant 6-1 road win in Peterborough. Philadelphia Flyers prospect Anthony Salinitri (3, 4, 5) had a four point night, recording his first OHL hat-trick along with an assist. Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nikita Korostelev (11) was also productive, registering a goal and two assists. Jaden Lindo (5) and Adam Ruzicka (2) also scored while Justin Fazio made 38 saves, backing the Sting to victory despite being outshot 39-27. Kyle Jenkins (2) provided the lone goal for Peterborough. Sarnia’s third straight win sees them improve to 8-2-1-0.

WINDSOR 2 KINGSTON 0
New York Rangers prospect Sean Day (4) had a goal in his Spitfires debut while Michael DiPietro made 25 saves for the shutout in a 2-0 win over the visiting Kingston Frontenacs. Day and Cole Purboo (5) had goals for the Spits who improve to 8-3-0-0 with the win. Windsor outshot Kingston 31-25 as goaltender Jeremy Helving made 29 saves in the loss.

NORTH BAY 8 OTTAWA 5
The North Bay Battalion prevailed in a shooting match on Thursday as Adam Thilander’s first OHL goal stood as the winner in an 8-5 win over the visiting Ottawa 67’s. Tied 5-5 midway through the third, Thilander gave the Troops a boost as they’d never look back on a night where both goaltenders were kept busy. Zach Poirier (2, 3) and Brett Hargrave (6, 7) each scored twice for North Bay while Kyle Potts (1), Brett McKenzie (8) and Adam McMaster (1) also converted. Ottawa, who at one point led 4-2 in the game, had goals from Sasha Chmelevski (5), Patrick White (4), Artur Tyanulin (4), Chase Campbell (4) and Ben Fanjoy (3). North Bay outshot Ottawa 39-35, handing the 67’s their third straight loss.
