Thursday Highlights: Villalta stands tall as Hounds win fourth in a row

Los Angeles Kings prospect Matthew Villalta was a difference-maker, turning aside 27 shots as the Soo Greyhounds took a 3-2 victory in Windsor. The Hounds were outshot 23-14 through the opening two periods but Villalta stood tall as goals from Keeghan Howdeshell (8, 9) and Morgan Frost (9) paved the way to victory. Will Cuylle (4) and Tyler Angle (4) scored a pair of goals inside the final three minutes of regulation, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Spits suffered their third straight loss, falling to 5-7-0-1. The Greyhounds improve to 9-3-2-0 with their fourth straight win.

NORTH BAY 4, BARRIE 1
Justin Brazeau (13, 14) scored twice and added an assist as the North Bay Battalion were 4-1 winners over visiting Barrie. Troops netminder Christian Purboo turned in a 28-save performance while Brandon Coe (2) and David Maier (3) chipped in with goals as the Troops went 3-for-8 on the power play. Matej Pekar’s (8) first period shorthanded marker was the lone goal for Barrie as they lost despite outshooting North Bay 29-24. The Battalion improves to 6-7-0-0 while Barrie falls to 7-6-1-0.

PETERBOROUGH 5, SUDBURY 2
The Peterborough Petes reversed a four-game slide to get back in the win column as Nick Robertson (1), Declan Chisholm (2) and Pavel Gogolev (4) all had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over visiting Sudbury. Nick Isaacson (6) and Brady Hinz (7) tacked on goals while Semyon Der-Arguchintsev had a pair of assists. Petes netminder Hunter Jones stopped 31 of 33, surrendering Sudbury goals by Quinton Byfield (6) and Nolan Hutcheson (4). Jake McGrath made 31 saves in the loss for the Wolves as they fell to 8-5-0-0. The Petes improve to 9-6-0-0.
