Thursday Highlights: Wolves, Firebirds earn road wins

 

SUDBURY 3, PETERBOROUGH 1
– Newly appointed captain Liam Ross had a goal and an assist as the Sudbury Wolves snapped an eight-game slide, earning their first win since Nov. 26th.
– Dallas Stars prospect Jacob Holmes hit the empty net in his Wolves debut, playing his first game with Sudbury alongside former Soo Greyhounds teammate Marc Boudreau and hometown product Alex Pharand.
– Joe Carroll scored his 11th of the season unassisted midway through the second period for Peterborough’s lone marker.
– Mitchell Weeks stopped 31 of 32 in the Sudbury crease opposite Tye Austin who made 30 saves in the loss.
– Former Wolves forward Chase Stillman as well as Jonathan Melee made their Petes debuts.
– Sudbury climbs to within one point of Peterborough for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, improving to 9-18-3-0.
– Peterborough drops a second straight decision, falling to 10-17-2-0.
GAME CENTRE & HIGHLIGHTS

FLINT 6, ERIE 3
– Zack Terry and Coulson Pitre both scored twice as the Firebirds doubled-up the Otters on the road, stopping Erie’s winning streak at four.
– New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann scored his club-leading 23rd goal of the season.
– Amadeus Lombardi and Riley Piercey each had two assists for Flint.
– Vancouver Canucks prospect Connor Lockhart returned to the lineup and scored 33 seconds into the first period.
– Christian Kyrou and Noah Sedore both recorded two assists for Erie.
– Flint’s Luke Cavallin turned aside 43 shots for the win opposite Erie’s Nolan Lalonde who made 31 saves.
– Flint improves to 7-0 against Erie this season.
– The Firebirds sit fifth in the Western Conference with a 16-12-0-2 record. Their nine road wins are tied for second-most in the OHL.
– Erie is 10th in the Western Conference with a 10-17-1-1 record. Thursday was their first home game since Dec. 12th.
