Tuesday Highlights: Otters stay hot in the shootout


The Erie Otters won their league-leading 12th overtime/shootout scenario of the season, edging the Kitchener Rangers 5-4 on the road. The big win for the Otters keeps them within a point of playoff contention in the Western Conference as Gera Poddubnyi and Petr Cajka scored in the shootout while goaltender Daniel Murphy stopped three of four Kitchener shooters. Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Alexey Lipanov (9) scored with 2:49 left in regulation to force overtime and help the Rangers come away with a point. Cajka (19), Alex Gritz (8), Chad Yetman (16) and Brendan Hoffmann (10) had Erie goals while Murphy made 27 saves. Eric Guest (3), Reid Valade (3) and Ryan Stepien (7) joined Lipanov in the goal-scoring department for Kitchener while Luke Richardson kicked out 34 shots. Erie improves to 22-28-2-1 and climbs to 12-3 in overtime or shootouts this season. The Rangers fall to 25-24-3-1 for sixth in the Western Conference. Erie has won three of four against Kitchener this season.
