Wednesday Highlights: Solovyov, Giroux lift Spirit in overtime


Ilya Solovyov found a waiting Damien Giroux (10, 11) for his third assist of the night 2:47 into overtime as the Saginaw Spirit defeated the Soo Greyhounds 4-3 on the road. Giroux scored a pair of goals in the victory as the Spirit recovered after letting a 3-1 lead slip away in the third period. Tristan Lennox was a difference maker, turning aside 35 shots to steer his team to victory while other Saginaw goals came from Cole Coskey (8) and Jake Goldowski (3). Cole Perfetti and Blade Jenkins each picked up a pair of assists for the Spirit as they won despite being outshot 38-28. Cole MacKay (5), Billy Constantinou (2) and Holden Wale (2) scored Soo goals, with Constantinou finding the back of the net in his Greyhounds debut. Christian Propp made 24 saves to help his team earn a point in the OT loss. Saginaw’s Solovyov now leads the OHL in assists with 17 over his first 11 games. The Spirit improve to 6-4-1-0 following their second straight win. The Greyhounds drop a third straight outing, falling to 5-5-0-0.
