Peterborough Petes forward Akil Thomas paid a visit to the NHL’s Black Hockey History Tour in Scarborough, Ont. on Friday evening. Joined by the NHL’s first black American-born player Valmore James, Thomas took part in the National Hockey League’s ongoing Black History Month celebrations, surprising a group of local youth with a game of floor hockey in the process.

Thomas was given a tour by Kwame Mason, co-creator of the museum and director of the film “Soul On Ice: Past, Present & Future,” that discusses the history of black hockey players and features an appearance from the Peterborough Pete.
