The Saginaw Spirit took the first of eight meetings against their cross-state rival the Flint Firebirds as Nicholas Porco (4, 5) scored twice in a 6-2 road win. Damien Giroux (1), Bode Wilde (1), Jake Goldowski (2) and Cole Perfetti (3) also got in on the offence as Saginaw outshot Flint 35-27, going 2-for-5 on the man advantage. Arizona Coyotes prospect Ivan Prosvetov made 25 saves including a penalty shot for his first OHL win as the Spirit improved to 2-2-1-0. Jacob Winterton (2) and Ethan Keppen (3) scored for the Firebirds as they dropped their fifth straight decision to start the season. Newly acquired forward Lucas Rowe made his Firebirds debut.
