The Saginaw Spirit made quite the splash in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection with a league-high six picks in the first three rounds.
So far this off-season they’ve capitalized on that opportunity receiving commitments from their top three selections which means three players chosen in the top-25 of the 2017 draft class will skate for the Spirit in 2017-18 which is something no other OHL team can boast.
Leading the next wave of Spirit talent is 4th overall pick Nicholas Porco who earned GTHL Player of the Year honours with the Vaughan Kings, followed by a pair of minor midget winners including forward Aidan Prueter of the ALLIANCE champion London Jr. Knights chosen 24th overall, and defenceman Duncan Penman of the GTHL champion Mississauga Rebels chosen 25th overall.
The excitement in Saginaw doesn’t stop with the 2017 prospects as the club also received a pair of commitments from promising American 2016 picks including first round choice Blade Jenkins, and sixth rounder Caleb Everett.
Porco, Prueter, Penman, and third round pick Camaryn Baber will represent the Spirit at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
