The 2018 OHL Priority Selection and the weeks to follow are reason for excitement for the future of the Saginaw Spirit.

With three picks in the top-33 the club landed several prospects of interest that could help build the nucleus of a team ready to make waves in the West Division.

It begins with Cole Perfetti, an elite scorer who tallied an astounding 125 points including 52 goals and 73 assists in 64 games this season for the Vaughan Kings. The fifth overall pick led his club to the OHL Cup Final and was named a Gatorade Tournament All-Star with 10 points in seven games playing on Minor Midget’s greatest stage.  He then led GTHL Red in scoring at the 2018 OHL Gold Cup capturing a silver medal among top talent from across Ontario.  Perfetti made things official in June committing to the club after participating in Rookie Camp.

Second round picks Tristan Lennox and Ethan Cardwell have also officially committed to the Spirit for the 2018-19 season with the announcement coming just one week after the draft.

Lennox was the first goaltender chosen in 2018 going 26th overall after playing for the Mississauga Reps that included a standout performance at the OHL Cup posting a 1.91 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage in five games.  He also won gold at the 2018 OHL Gold Cup making 25 saves in the championship final for GTHL Blue to stump Perfetti’s Red squad.

Cardwell was chosen 33rd overall from the Clarington Toros where he produced 30 goals and 24 assists for 54 points in 35 games at centre.  He won bronze as a member of OMHA Black at the 2018 OHL Gold Cup.

All three players will be competing at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Development Camp from July 21-27 in Calgary.
