The Sarnia Sting were one of the busiest teams in the early stages of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection with five picks in the opening three rounds.

The draft day buzz has extended into the off-season with the club already receiving commitments from their top four selections solidifying the class of 2017 as an integral part of the team’s future.

Jamieson Rees captained the Mississauga Reps to an OHL Cup title and later hoisted the OHL Gold Cup headlining the next wave in Sarnia chosen with the ninth overall pick.  While Rees will provide offense up front, the club will also get contributions from the blue line through second rounder Alexandre Hogue of the Cumberland Grads who was named HEO Player of the Year.  Third round commitments include Brampton 45’s captain Brayden Guy, and fellow forward Justin McCombs of the Kitchener Jr. Rangers.

Off the ice the Sting have also made a commitment towards their future inking General Manager Nick Sinclair to a multi-year extension announced in May.

Rees, Hogue, and sixth round goaltender Ethan Langevin will represent the Sting at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
