The defending Mastercard Memorial Cup champions reigned supreme in their home opener on Thursday, carrying their winning tradition over into 2017-18 with a 3-1 victory over the Saginaw Spirit. Captain Aaron Luchuk brought the Memorial Cup to centre ice in a pre-game ceremony at the WFCU Centre and proceeded to collect a pair of assists in the win. Michael DiPietro made 26 saves in his return from Vancouver Canucks training camp, helping hold Saginaw’s power play to 0-for-6 on the night.
