2018 NHL Draft prospect Ty Dellandrea (3) provided home opener heroics in Flint, scoring with two seconds remaining in overtime to keep the Firebirds perfect with a 5-4 win over visiting Ottawa. The Firebirds and Niagara IceDogs are the OHL’s only remaining undefeated teams as Flint improved to 3-0-0-0 in the closely contested matchup. Down 4-3 early in the third, the Firebirds would draw even on Dallas Stars prospect Nicholas Caamano’s (1, 2) second of the night at 8:24. Dellandrea scored the winner with an assist from Maurizio Colella before 3,845 at the Dort Federal Event Center. Fedor Gordeev (2) and C.J. Clarke (1) provided other Flint goals while netminder Garrett Forrest made 31 saves. The 67’s outshot the Firebirds 35-31 as Austen Keating (4), Graeme Clarke (2) and Travis Barron (1, 2) accounted for Ottawa goals. The 67’s now sit at 2-2-1-0 on the season and wrap up their weekend road trip on Sunday in Sarnia.
