The Guelph Storm paid tribute to one of the franchise’s long-standing fixtures Saturday night at the Sleeman Centre, honouring recently retired equipment manager Rusty Hammond prior to puck drop.

Joined by his family, Hammond was welcomed to centre ice pre-game as a special tribute featuring numerous Storm alumni was played on the Sleeman Centre video board.

Hammond, who went out as an OHL champion for a fourth time last spring, served 25 years with the Storm organization. His hockey career included more than 2,000 games including a total of six Memorial Cup presented by Kia tournament appearances, Canadian National Junior Team duty in 2002 and many trips to the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

Several former Storm players have shared kind words and memories of their time with Hammond over Twitter including Andrew Long, Michael Latta, Ryan Callahan and many more.
